Female Deities

Female deities based upon Ancient Egyptian ‘Paddle Dolls’ weathering in my garden. Subjecting them to sun and rain softens the harsh colours of fabric

My interest in female deities has grown since I began researching the subject of belief systems.  Current belief systems based on patriarchy place the female in the role of subordinate, as an artist and feminist, with desires for equality for both women and men, I use my work to question the status quo of both ancient and modern belief systems.

I am currently assembling a collection of female deities I have been making during 2014, here are some of them.

Two more female deities with my interpretive drawing of a ‘Paddle Doll’.

An ancient Egyptian Paddle Doll.

Ceramic copy of a Mother Goddess I bought in Goreme, Turkey in 2013. The book, ‘The Language of the Goddess’ is by archaeologist Marija Gimbutas and is one I’m currently reading as part of my research.
