My Protective Amulet Series  of paintings are a direct response to my Small Amulet Series of textiles.

Having taken the textile works as far as I wanted for the time being and being drawn more towards painting as a form of expression I used the textile sculptures as subject matter to begin my exploration of the medium of paint.

The dark background for this series of paintings was influenced by the paintings of Dutch artist Rachel Ruysch 1664-1750 who I had recently been researching for a series of talks about successful female artists of the past.
